The past year has been overwhelmingly clouded by the ongoing pandemic that has taken away many of the past-times that we all love enjoy. Festivals have been halted, clubs have been shut down, and bars are struggling. The world of music has changed, possibly forever. With all that in mind, Michael Melvin has taken to his own means in building a lasting reputation as one of the top upcoming DJs of our generation.
Michael Edward Melvin (born 8 November 1998), better known by his stage name, Melvin, is an American DJ, record producer, musician and songwriter of electronic dance music from Greenwich, CT. Melvin was formerly known as MoŁ; his career began to takeoff through mixing live sets at parties whilst attending school at Syracuse University. Due to the lack of educational resources available at Syracuse University during the pandemic, Melvin temporarily packed up his studio in Syracuse, NY to work on his craft full-time in Greenwich, CT. Being back at the studio he began his career in stirred an undeniable drive within Melvin to make himself one of the greats.
Even throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Melvin has found a way to resonate his loyal fans and begin to build a following behind his work. This had been done primarily through his constant streaming on Twitch & releases on SoundCloud. Melvin has gained traction behind many of his releases on SoundCloud such as Moles Dig Deep (feat. Walsh). The set has been played over 40,000 times since the pair released it in 2020. Melvin has recently been focusing on his Twitch presence as it enables him to preform live sets and interact with fans during each performance. This also enables viewers to replay their favorite sets from Melvin and share them with the world.
Since his career as a DJ began, Melvin has always had a natural ear for finding the perfect songs to fit every vibe and occasion. As an expert in the digital marketing world, Melvin has used his unique skillsets to build a following behind his work. His sets are often released with catchy, unique, or even crude names that are meant to grasp the listeners attention. This unique marketing tactic has become one of the most quintessential aspects of his success to date.
